In light of recent events, it's probably time to spruce up the house with a cleaning! Here are some tips to make it a little easier this year.
Stainless steel. While stainless steel appliances look sleek in magazine layouts, it can be difficult to keep them shiny and fingerprint-free at home. The best thing to do is spray down stainless steel with a wax-based aerosol spray and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth. To avoid scratching up the surfaces, don’t use bleach or abrasive scrubbing pads.
Closet clean out. Nothing makes a home feel more cluttered than opening the closet door and having coats, mittens, wrapping paper, books and old DVDs fall on your head. Clean those closets out and enjoy a clutter free storage space! Keep at least one box on hand for things to donate or put in a garage sale and another box for things that can be tossed out. If you haven’t used items in the last year, seriously consider purging them!
Clean corners and walls. It’s amazing how fingerprints can add up on doorways, railings, walls and other commonly touched surfaces. Good old fashioned warm soap and water can help you wash away dingy surfaces. Be sure to be careful with painted surfaces so you don’t smudge or dull them.
Windows and lamps. Clean all the areas that help light up your home. Wash down windows – inside and out. Dust or vacuum lamp shades and clean the bases. You might be surprised how this will help brighten up your house!
This won't last forever, so let's get everything cleaned up and in order while we wait!
